The Midwife of Venice

The Midwife of Venice - Roberta Rich A spunky Jewish midwife, Hannah, has to deal with Gentile aristocrats - it's illegal in Venice for her to deliver a Gentile child, but she does anyway - not to mention the bubonic plague, an orphaned baby, and a husband enslaved on Malta, needing ransom. Enjoyed this one, even though I'm not heavily into what I'm beginning to see as the biological-woman subgenre (plots centring around women's reproductive systems, of which there seem to be an awful lot these days). This one had a great deal of interesting historical detail to balance that out. I'll keep an eye out for more of this author.
