[These notes were made in 1981. I read the 1845 edition:]. A rather tedious series of expostulations in verse upon the failings of the Anglican Church. Not poems, really, altho' they rhyme and the metre is fine - but the metre and rhyme contribute to nothing but the occasional perversion of a sentence structure. I was not particularly in sympathy with the sentiments expressed - extremely traditionalist, and rather nasty against anything smacking of Evangelism - so perhaps that contributed to the sour taste.
