Maria Marten; Or, The Murder In The Red Barn A Victorian Melodrama
[These notes were made in 1981. I read this in a 1928 edition:]. First appearance in print of an 1830s/40s melodrama about a girl seduced and murdered, based on an actual happening in 1828. The play itself is illiterate and unskilful, but interesting as an example of the genre. The introduction very interesting as I knew nothing about 19th-century melodrama.
