India: a poem in three cantos by a young civilian of Bengal

India: a poem in three cantos by a young civilian of Bengal - Anonymous [These notes were made in 1981:]. Source-Robarts Library, U of T. Finished June 16/81. Ninety-two pages of rhyming couplets protesting about ill-treatment and mismanagement of India under British rule. An introduction by a twentieth-century Indian scholar irritates with the slipshod inaccuracy of language which, alas, characterizes much Indian academic writing in my experience, but the poem itself, by an anonymous Englishman, is unexpectedly rather good. Its better-than-competent handling of the couplet, and graceful, if somewhat conventional imagery relieve what I found to be an otherwise rather tedious subject.
