[These notes made in 1984:]. Horatio Hornblower, captain, knight, and married to his second wife Barbara, is given command of a fleet in the Baltic at the same time as Napoleon is invading Russia. Lots of action in various military engagements, plus Horatio's usual soul-searching, combine for the expected - and not the less pleasurable becasue expected - good read.
