A False Mirror
First book I've read by this author. The mental ghost of a soldier he executed in the war is an interesting conceit, and a clever way to externalize Rutledge's internal debates, but I'm not sure how the device would wear over multiple novels. The plot was clever; I was not particularly bowled over by the characterization; some glaring errors in the copy-editing (do these things even get copy-edited any more?) were distracting.
