A fascinatingly different view of the history of skating, with much more emphasis than I have ever seen on the pre-Jackson Haines developments. It explains the English practice of "combined skating" - groups of 4 or more performing symmetrical movements around a centre - which died out as a discipline but fascinatingly had some residual influence on fours.
